An extract from Killing Me Softly

Tony's cold smile chilled her to the bone and she started to panic.
"What's the matter you stupid. . .  What do you think you're. . ."

Annette didn't finish her sentence. His lips were locked on hers while with his left hand both ends of the scarf were drawn tighter and tighter. He began to choke the life out of her. His right arm forcing her arm behind her back and continuing long after the bones had cracked.

He broke off his kiss and looked at her.
"Why did you do that? Why did you have to say that?"

There was a strange gurgling noise in the back of her throat as he pushed her away from him with distaste. The bitch! Try and fool around with his feelings would she? Well, she wouldn't fool around with anyone else again.

Tony started the car and headed out towards the Clent Hills. No-one saw him. No-one would remember him anyway. The only people who came to Clent at that time of night were courting couples who weren't interested in anyone except each other.

He drove into the dark, unlit lanes and did what he had to do. Then slowly crooning the Roberta Flack hit - Killing Me Softly - he wiped his knife on the grass, arranged her body and was gone.
