“The best read I’ve had in years.”

“Captured me totally, I had to read on.”

Judy Spiers Show BBC Radio Devon

"I've waited for over a year to read this sequel to Killing me Softly and now I have my hands on it I realise the meaning of the saying :'Be careful what you wish for' UGHHH.. This is really delving onto the taboo. I don't know who is the most terrifying character - Tony Clifton or his mother! If I lived in Birmingham I'd be scared to go out at night. If I were a woman I'd be very scared. I heard Miss Revill being interviewed on Radio Two recently and . .well. . . she sounds so rational! How can a rational mind ever have invented such a creepy killer as Tony Clifton - and his religion-obsessed and incestuous mother . . ohhh GOD!
I dare anyone to read it."

An extract from Prayer for the Dying

"That's right, trust in the Lord. Let him be your guide and strength," uttered Mrs Clinton fervently.

"Please Mum," he begged. "Leave me be."

"I don't know what's the matter with you. What are you rolling your eyes about for?" Her voice began to rise becoming more strident. "Tony, you're not listening. Tony!" Mrs Clifton's agitation was apparent.

Tony appeared to blank his mother out. He was becoming confused, angry and. . . dangerous. His chair scraped backwards as he leapt up. His hands clenched tightly at his side. The twist of his mouth showed pain and hatred.

His mother hissed, "Remember St Mark, chapter twelve, verse twenty-four." Her tone altered becoming more reverent as she continued.

"And Jesus answering said unto them, "Do you not therefore err, because ye know not the Scriptures, neither the power of God?"

A low rumbling roar began deep in Tony's throat, softly at first, gradually building up to a terrifying howl like a demented demon denied the right to destroy.

A nurse moved quickly to Tony's side, talking slowly, calmly. He nodded at Mrs Clifton, "I think you'd better go. . . Now."
